Just a short note to follow on the back of the posting of the Windows Vista Count Down Gadget. To get your gadget to install from the web you must insure that the web server you are uploading the gadget to has the MIME type ‘application/x-windows-gadget’ registered for the file extension ‘.gadget’. Most hosting packages will allow you to add and remove MIME types from the server on the fly via the control panel.
If the MIME type is not installed your Vista gadget will be downloaded as a ZIP file and will not allow the user to install it without first renaming it to .gadget file extension.
