Adobe Captivate 4 – Error encountered while copying audio stream – Vista x64
July 18th, 2009 by Oliver - Tagged with Adobe, Captivate - Posted in Other Stuff, Web Development
After installing the trial version of Adobe Captivate 4 I received the error:
“Error encountered while copying audio stream”
After searching high and low I finnaly found a fix that works for my setup (Vista x64):
1. Close Captivate
2. Run ‘command prompt (cmd)’ in Admin mode
3. Go to the directory where Captivate-4 is installed
4. Run ‘regsvr32 NSAudio.dll’
5. You should get a message ‘registration of dll successful’
6. Now launch Captivate-4 again and execute your test.Â
Â
Hope this helps people.

Hi guys,
I had the same error and lost 5hrs of my day b/c I didn’t know how to troubleshoot the directions. Please, please, please when you provide tech info to the less tech savy folks like myself, add the line of code that might help!
I entered the following and it worked.
Hi guys,
I had the same error and lost 5hrs of my day b/c I didn’t know how to troubleshoot the directions you all listed above. Please, please, please when you provide tech info to the less tech savvy folks like me; add the line of code that might help!
1. Click the Start menu / button / icon
2. Search for Command Prompt little black box appears
3. RIGHT mouse click and choose “run as administratorâ€
4. Type the following: cd/
5. Hit the enter key (this got me back to C:\>) and from here I had to add:
6. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4>regsvr32 NSAudio.dll
7. Hit the enter key
8. It works!
All I can say is that Fn>&*nG Visat sucks! In addition, you guys are AWESOME! Now if I could just get back the 5hrs I spend on this crap!

@Jakie d: I will try.
Worked for me, xp on 64 bit!
thank you!
Adobe’s web site did not even have this!!
For the first step rather than searching you can also go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, then right click on Command Prompt from there.
Every time I try to do this I get this error: ‘Program’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
And because I don’t use command prompt much, I have 2 newbie questions:
1) Do you have to type the C again? Should it look like C:\>C:\Program Files… or C:\>Program Files…
2) My MSAudio.dll file is in the Program Files (x86) folder, not the Program Files folder. Do I need to type the (x86)?
I’ve tried all sorts of ways to type this and none of it is working. Help!
Hi Karin,
Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve been away.
[Yes, they unchained me from my desk!]
You’ve probably already found answers to your questions, however:
1) Should look like C:\>C:\Program Files..
2) Yes, you do.
Hope this helps, I will update this post with newer instructions and screen shots when I get a minute, it’s proving to be quite popular.
Oliver
Worked for me! Thanks for the info.
Perfect, exact description of the problem and a solution that worked on the first try. Thank you!
Hi all.
Maybe this is off-topic, but I try anyway
When running Captiva on a Windows7 x32, and logged in as a domain account, I am not able save the captured files at all.Even weh ntrying to save on my own desktop, nothing happens, and title in captivate just says the “untitled*.cp” When logging in at another Win7 pc ,also joined to a domain, I have no problems. All versions are the same in both environments. In both cases,I´m am running as an administrative user. Fiddling with UAC has no effect. All compatablity modes have been tried, no luck.I have seen this error mentioned one single place, but no solution posted. If this sounds familar, I would love to hear about it
thnx ..
